Easy Guava Pastelitos
I make these when I’m feeling homesick for Miami. Plus, I can fill mine with extra guava, the way I like them.
Easy Guava Pastelitos
- Frozen puff pastry sheets (I use Publix GreenWise 1 lb)
- Guava Paste (I use Iberia 14 oz)
- 1 egg white
- 1/4 cup cane sugar
1) Allow the pastry dough to thaw.
2) Prep: Preheat the oven to 400, line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, and slice the guava.
3) Use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut nine even squares in each sheet of pastry dough.
4) Make pastelitos: Place one square on the baking sheet, spread guava slices over the dough, and then top with another dough square; make 9.
5) Brush the tops of the pastelitos with egg white and then sprinkle each lightly with sugar.
6) Bake for 15-25 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and puffy; let cool.
When I say “let cool,” I mean it. The guava is going to be HOT right out of the oven.
If I’m really feeling extra, or it’s the holidays, I’ll make some cafecito while they cool; Cafecito + Pastelito = Joy.
